Never heard of a game of Craps before? Or maybe you have heard of it but just did not have any clue as to what it is. To give a general idea of what it is, just think of any movie that has casino scenes where people are throwing a pair of dice on a table. Beginning to get the picture?
The overall idea when playing in a game of Craps is that players will bet against the outcome number of the two dice that are tossed on the special table. In a casino, the person who throws the dice is called the shooter while other players may just place their bets, or chips, on the sides of the table and either win or lose depending on the outcome of the two dice being thrown. When the shooter throws and comes up with a 7 or 11, then he immediately wins and this is called ‘natural’; but if he throws the two dice and comes up with a 2, 3 or 12, then he loses and this is called as ‘craps’. If the shooter throws a total that is other than the winning or losing numbers, then this is called as the player’s point. He should be allowed to continue throwing the dice until he throws his point again, wherein he automatically wins and this is called as ‘making the point’, but if he throws a 7 first, then he loses and this is called as ‘seven out’.
Placing the bets on the craps table has to be done correctly. If you place your chips on the Pass Line, which is the sides or the outer edge of the table, before the shooter makes his first throw, then you will automatically win when a 7 or 11 comes out or when the player makes his point. This kind of betting, also called as the Pass Bet, is the safest in the casino and is done more often than the other bets. But at times, when you do not have any trust at the shooter, then you can bet against him. To do this, you should place your chips on the Don’t Pass area of the table and you can place your bet on the premise that the shooter won’t throw a winning number. The game of Craps will end once a 7 or 11 is thrown, or a player’s point is made. After this, a new round of game is played either with the same shooter or a new one.
Before betting on a game of craps, though, you must buy a set of chips in order to bet. When buying chips, take a look first at the table and check out the table’s limits. Also, a very good and helpful reminder and suggestion is that when you go and buy your chips, keep them at the minimum. Do not buy out your entire wad of money or cash out your entire credit card. Craps is a fast paced game, making you easily lose track of the way money is flying.
